International Women’s Day – #BeBoldForChange

This year’s theme for international Woman’s Day is #BeBoldForChange.

For my sister and I, this means working to provide girls with an education so that they can reach for a better life. Our central mission at both Body Bijou and Girls Helping Girls has always been to create long term solutions to gender inequality and systemic poverty. Since my sister and I created our respective organizations, we have realized that the best way to end poverty and improve the lives of all earthly citizens is to educate women.

When you educate a woman, you educate her family and her community as a whole, and the cycle of poverty can begin to break.

So today, on international woman’s day, lets #BeBoldForChange.

Empower women to stand up for their rights.

The only way we can succeed as a society is if we all work together to end gender inequality!

Linda’s Looks!

For the fall edition of Linda’s looks, I’ve rounded up my choices for the new season. Enjoy!

Look #1 is a really cute day outfit. I would wear this to lunch with a friend, to the mall, or to an informal meeting. For me, fall is all about being cosy and comfortable, and I think this outfit does both!

Look #2 is equally as cute! This look is a little fancier, and I would recommend it for a fall night out. I thought a body chain would look very elegant with this dress. The body chain adds a sense of sofiticaticon to the entire look.

Girls Helping Girls & Updates!

So I have been missing in action for the past month! I’ve been really busy with finishing up the school year (exams were killer!), preparing for standardized tests for college, and playing squash. Its been a really busy summer so far, but I wanted to update you on our charity partner, Girls Helping Girls.

For those who do not know, Girls Helping Girls is a non-profit organization my sister started that works to raise the global status of women through education. Her mission includes providing scholarships for girls to go to school all over the world, building schools, and providing teacher training (we call it the three-pronged approach!).

Body Bijou’s role in all of this is donating 50% of the net-profits to Girls Helping Girls. To date, our combined efforts have been able to provide 30 scholarships to girls in South Africa, Kenya, Jamaica, and Haiti, teacher training in Pakistan, and built three schools in Jamaica.

Just this week, we are really excited to announce that we have secured three more scholarships in South Africa!

The sweetest part was when I received the cutest letter from one of the girls we are sponsoring named Daisy.

I am really looking forward to expanding our mission into different areas to make getting to school easier and safer for girls. More to come soon!

body bijou & Elle Canada

It’s been awhile since I shared something on the blog.

School’s been super busy, as well as squash, and winter was a time to hibernate. Now that it’s spring, there is nothing more exciting than sharing my favourite news with Body Bijou fans.

First, I’m so excited to be featured in Elle Canada’s Gen Z panel for their May issue. (Note: Beyonce is on the cover if you want to pick it up). I spent the day meeting some of the smartest, coolest, and most successful teens. I was so honoured to be picked.

The day started off with lunch, and a run down of what was to be accomplished for the day. We got our hair and make-up done, and began to film for the video aspect of the shoot. Elle Canada has this really cool room they call the closet (The coolest and best organized closet in the world!).

It’s used for filming video and taking photos for the publication. This is where I spent most of my time while at Elle Canada’s studio. I was truly in awe at the process that goes into filming and taking good photos (about 100 tries for one good one!).

With any new season, I get inspired to look for new trends for my collection. I wanted to introduce the newest addition to the family – the Cleo Collar in silver and gold.

Hope to share more this spring/summer! Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram.

Give back this holiday

I love the holiday season! There is nothing more special than spending time with family and friends, and giving back.

Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. When you educate a girl, you educate her family and her community as a whole, and the cycle of poverty can begin to break.

50 percent of the net profits from your Body Bijou order go directly to helping girls in the developing world reach for a better life through education.

Join us in our mission this holiday season, by giving hope to one girl, and a pair of earrings to another.

Happy Holidays!

Linda’s Looks – Cozy Outfits / Cooler Climate

As the temperature drops,  I am so excited to share two stylish outfits I created, to be your next go-to, all season long!

Outfit #1:

For all my girls out there who love to be comfy but still want to look cute, this is the outfit for you! The sweater from TopShop will keep you feeling warm as the air gets cooler. I wanted to add some edge into this outfit with the combat boots. I own a pair just like these and I wore them for the first time this season just yesterday and was reminded of how much I LOVE them! The purse I picked is quite pricey, but it is a classy piece that will not be going out of style anytime soon. And last but never least, the jewelry. I decided to go with gold since its a warm colour, for a cooler climate. The Body Bijou pieces I picked were the Gold chandelier earrings priced at $38, the Gold Ball and Chain Ringalet, priced at $80, and lastly the Petra Bracelet (Grey Moonstone), priced at $60.

Outfit #2

This second outfit is super chic. Personally I LOVE crew knit sweaters, and wear them all the time. They are so comfortable, and effortless. This outfit is perfect for Sunday brunch with friends, or a casual night out. The jacket I picked is from H&M, and is a classy piece. I picked the black pants and purse from Topshop. Topshop always has great basic pieces just like the ones I picked. Last but not least, the jewelry. I decided to include our newest piece, the Silver Ball and Chain Necklace. This necklace is easy to wear with just about anything! It can be dressed up or down, and looks good with everything. The other two pieces I decided to include were our Body Bijou Fengari Earrings, and the Petra Bracelet in grey moonstone. These two pieces are gorgeous for layering.

I hope you liked these outfits for this fall, and I look forward to writing another blog post soon!

Thoughts on Back To School

PicMonkey CollageWith back to school in full fruition, I find myself dreading the return to long hours of homework and ultimately, getting back into a routine after an amazing summer.

After my self pity, I remember that there are millions of children, especially girls, who are denied an education. Children who walk three hours each way to school. Suddenly, my problems disappear, and I realize in Canada, we are so lucky to have free education for ALL!

In this back to school season, let’s try to remember that we are blessed to be living in this country, and to help out those who are denied an education in other parts of the world. I’m proud that 50% of our profits from Body Bijou go to Girls Helping Girls, a not-for-profit my sister Susanna started to help give girls in the developing world an education.

Together, we can help girl more girls an education, and start the school season off right!
